I don’t do New Year’s resolutions. Growing up, they were a fun family tradition, but as I’ve become an adult, I’ve lost the need to wait until a particular day to start something new. If I need to do it, I need to do it today. Why wait until January 1st to do something I should be doing in the first place?
This year, however, the New Year happens to coincide with some big life changes. Like getting far enough in the process of becoming a Foreign Service Officer to have to start thinking about the future. Like having lost 15 lbs. Like getting my finances in order. Like our first financially stable holiday since we started the business. 2011 is going to bring even bigger changes.
There are a lot of things I need to do this year. Some of them I’m already doing (learning to live healthily). Some of them I’m already doing well (paying down debt). Some of them I’m not doing at all (saving).
I’m a planner. I’m goal-oriented. I need timelines and todo lists.
Things I should be doing anyway and will continue to do in 2011:
- Planning menus every week
- Tracking my food
- Tracking how much we spend
- Writing every day
- Living the dream like I’m going to wake up tomorrow and it’s going to be gone
Every week, I am going to make a goal for:
- My finances
- My health
- My blog(s)
- My family
We’ve got some pretty impressive goals for the business too. Time to stop worrying and just do it. Happy New Year’s, everyone!
